Demitri's Taverna

A Greek/Mediterranean place.  Decent gyros.  But OMG the garlic butter for their bread!  You'll have stinky breath but it's worth it. SO GOOD.

Chicago

Food from places I don't remember from Chicago last year. Pancakes are from Cracker Barrel.

Austin

I'm cleaning out my iPhone photos so there is a blacklog of photos. I don't remember where we at but this was from my Austin trip.

Got a cob salad at Original Joes at SJC. No good.

Looked up some diner at Austin on yelp and got breakfast, it was just ok.

I drove to an Asian plaza and got beef noodle soup.  Wished I had a bowl to eat it out of, it was delicious!

Went to Kirby Lane which is a place net the tunnel in Austin. Got this salad with a cilantro-ish dressing, pretty legit.

Went to a mexican place with a whole bunch of people. I got a tortilla soup and some crispy chicken. I remember both being very tasty.

San Diego: Nobu

I have a very generous friend who treated me to Nobu. I always knew it was a super fancy sushi restaurant but I had no clue how fancy!  Most of the items didn't have prices, just MP for market price. Everything here was delicious!

We had yellow tail sashimi with jalapeño, yellowfin tuna tataki with cilantro dressing, bluefin toro and uni nigiri, a lobster roll, blacken cod and king crab tempura with ponzu sauce.

My favorite was the yellowtail sashimi with jalapeño and the bluefin toro nigiri. OMG, the fish just melted in my mouth!  This is what the rich people eat!!

Homemade: P.F. Chang's Spicy Chicken

I found a copycat recipe for P.F. Chnang's spicy chicken. Pretty close!  You can definitely taste the pineapple juice more in the copycat recipe than the real thing. Still good and way cheaper.

Homemade: Chicken Jook

Tried out my new Dutch oven making jook.  I think I'll stick to a regular pot next time since the rice got stuck to the bottom. Green onions were from my balcony.

Olleh

Jennifer and I went here for lunch one weekend.  We got two rolls, the screaming potato and I think the other one was some sort of dragon roll. Pretty good!  Then we got a combination tofu bowl because Jennifer wanted all the Korean sides. Pretty delicious. The tofu could have used a bit more salt. Another negative was that the shrimp was tiny!  Definitely better than Katana down the street.

Firehouse No. 1 Gastropub

Tried a new place in downtown San Jose. I got the pork belly sliders and coriander-chitole wings. Meh!  Sliders were just ok.  Wings were DRY.  Couldn't even taste the coriander.  This place known more for their drinks. Drunk people don't need good food to eat, I suppose.

Milk Pail Market Frozen Croissants

I got frozen croissants that you defrost overnight and they puff up three times the size!  Bake them and I sprinkle some powdered sugar on it. Delicious.  Doesn't seem as greasy as store bought ones.  The other one in the photo is an apple croissant.

Seattle: Paseo

OMG - heaven!!!  I got the Caribbean roast sandwich - Pork shoulder coated in Paseo Marinade & slow roasted 'til falling into succulent morsels.  Amazing!!  Must go back!  Eric got the Caribbean bowl and was very pleased with his dish as well.

Seattle: Geraldine's Counter

One of the best French toast I've had.  Made from a sour dough bread, it was different and very crunchy. Eric had French toast with a honey peach topping.  He also noted that the bacon was thick and delicious.

San Diego: Alchemy

Small place that is off the beaten track. We went there for happy hour and got duck bao, taro tacos and oysters. I forgot to take a photo. They also have the miracle berry experience. You take this powers pink stuff and it makes everything taste sweet!  They bring out a plate of sour desserts and fruit for you to try.  Very trippy!

San Diego: Prospect Bar & Grill

We went to see the cove and stopped by this place for lunch.  I got the seared ahi tuna salad.  Jennifer got the shrimp tacos.  Pretty decent.

San Diego: Babycakes

Cupcake place with some amazing looking cupcakes!  Jennifer and I shared the tuxedo cupcake.  Very moist.  Prices are reasonable too for such a large cupcake.

San Diego: Mystic Mocha

A local gem we went to for breakfast and coffee.  I got a scramble that came with potatoes.  It was simple yet delicious.  The coffee snobs with me were pleased with their drinks.

San Diego: Table 926

Part of restaurant week.  I got the pork belly as a starter.  Beef cheek for entree. And molten lava cake for dessert.  Pork belly was good.  Beef cheek was way too salty.  Lava cake was just ok.

San Diego: The Prado at Balboa Park

I stuck with the restaurant week menu and got an iceberg lettuce wedge with smoke applewood bacon, tomato and a crack coriander vinaigrette. My meal was the whole grain mustard steamed mussels.  Pretty tastey broth.  Down it all with a virgin mojito.

San Diego: Urban Solace

Poplar breakfast/brunch place, there was a line of people outside before the place even opened!  We shared cheese biscuits that came with a orange-honey butter and smoked tomato jam. I decided to go light and got a seated albacore chop-chop made with avocado, cilantro, cucumbers, peppers and pepitas.  Eric got pancakes and bacon.  Jennifer opted for a burger.  I think everyone was satisfied with their meal.
